The Managing Director of Arik Airline, Mr. Chris Ndulue, has blame obsolete apron markings at the Jos airport has the cause of the minor accident involving an Arick plane,Boeing 737-700 a parked Nigerian Air force aircraft.
The incident happened on Friday 14th.July 2012 on the tarmac of Yakubu Gowon Airport when an Arik Air plane on a scheduled flight from Jos to Lagos brushed the wing of a parked Nigeria Air Force (NAF) aircraft while taxing and causing damages to wings of both aircraft.
According to Mr. Ndulue -----“The markings on the tarmac of the Jos Airport are old markings which did not take into cognizance the use of bigger aircraft like Boeing 737-700 or 737-800 which we have in our fleet and are capable of misleading pilots during taxing. We hope this incident will make FAAN to re-do those markings,”
I hope the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN will wake up to its responsibilities of making our airports safe for air travel.
