Enyimba
International FC of Aba, the winner of the 2013 Federation Cup, said it
was gunning for double victory this season by winning the ongoing
2012/2013 Globacom Premier League (GPL).
Enyimba
is currently topping the 20-team league table with 59 points from 35
matches and with three matches left. Oke Nwabeke, the General
Coordinator of the team, in Lagos said that the club’s target was to win
the two competitions same season just like Rangers International of
Enugu had done.
“Our
target this season is to get a double, we want to win all the necessary
trophies that are available this season. “So, by the special grace of
God, we won’t relent, we will maintain the lead in the league.
“We
have just three matches to go and we will secure our win, home and
away’’, Nwabeke said. The coordinator said the team had played its
matches with the required vigour to maintain its current form in the
league.
“We
take the matches as they come, every match to us is a final, so we
don’t relent in our effort and we ensure that the players play as a
team’’, he added. Nwabeke, who also attributed the club’s success to
motivation from the State Government, added that the players and the
coaching crew were also dedicated.
“The
Governor and the management have been very supportive to the team. The
players are well motivated. “All these put together and God’s guidance
have been the secret behind the club’s success so far and I believe this
is just the beginning’’, Nwabeke added.
Enyimba
made history by winning the Federation Cup three times, but not
concurrently. The club, at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos had at the
final on Sept. 14, defeated Warri Wolves 5-4 on penalty kicks after the
match had ended 2-2 at full and extra times.
