There was confusion on Tuesday in Kankiya Local Government of Katsina
State following the killing of a pastor of the Assemblies of God Church
in the area, Dike Ocha, by some miscreants who accused him of allegedly
killing a six-year-old girl, Fatima Muhammad, for ritual purposes.
Confirming the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Hurdi
Muhammad, noted that apart from killing the pastor, the Assemblies of
God church, where the late pastor was a minister, and one other church
were burnt. The police boss also noted that the Eze Igbo of the area was
assaulted while his property was burnt by the hoodlums.
Muhammad said it was the handiwork of some mischief makers that
accused the pastor of killing the little girl when her decomposing body
was discovered in a building close to his house.
He explained that when the body of the girl was found close to his
house, some mischief makers began spreading the rumour that it was the
pastor that killed the little girl, adding that it might be those who
might have killed the girl that spread the rumour to cover their traces.
He added that the girl might have been raped by some people. The police
boss believed that when the teenager died, the assailants dumped her in
the building where her remains were found and turn round to accuse the
pastor.
Muhammad explained that the irate mob pulled the pastor out of his
house and started beating him but was rescued by some good people.
The CP said the aggrieved mob trailed the cleric to a hospital where he was receiving treatment, seized him and set him ablaze.
He added that the Eze Igbo of the area, who was with the pastors in
his house as of the time of the incident, was injured by the mob.
Muhammad said the hoodlums later moved to his house and and burnt his property.
