Sunny Ade & Obey Set for joint Musical performance in Lagos

Thirty-five years after the duo of Miliki King turned Evangelist, Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi, and King of World Beat, Otunba Sunday Ishola Adeniyi Adegeye a.k.a. King Sunny Ade, performed together at defunct Bolaji Spot and Surulere Night club, in Surulere, Lagos Southwest Nigeria, the two music icons are set for another duet this time on stage in a show titled ‘Oleku Concert’.
The show is being organized by WTS, a broadcast equipment company. According to its organizers, Otunba Deji Osibogun, CEO, WTS, the show will hold on Children’s Day, 27 May at the Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Osibogun said that the concert will be a triple celebration: to celebrate the 70th birthday of Evangelist Obey, King Sunny Ade’s 50 years on stage and to celebrate with the children.
He said that part of the proceeds from the show will go to UNICEF’s sponsored charities.
“The concert is going to be a family affair. That is why we have fixed the date to coincide with the Children s Day celebration. And the show will be beamed live on major radio and television stations,” Osibogun said.
Speaking at a media briefing to announce the upcoming concert, both KSA and Obey agreed that the show is a must watch as they have signed a memorandum of understanding with the organizer.
“There is no other way to celebrate 70 and 50 other than this kind of show. It is to show appreciation to our family, fans and friends. We have stayed together for a very long time, this is history, we will be part of the show,” says Obey.
KSA on his part said: “We have been looking forward to who will broker this type of show. Now it is time for us to celebrate. I pray to celebrate my own 70 years on earth like my brother Ebenezer Obey. I will be celebrating him while he will also be celebrating me. We thank God for this day and I can tell you that this show is real.”
