Governor Amaechi Blames "Hungry Retired Politicians" For Rivers Crisis

At the opening ceremony of the Port Harcourt Book Festival Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has called his critics lazy people who have not succedded in their careers, and are looking for means to get into the government house, with the only aim of stealing the treasury.“There is a political crisis in Rivers State. What is the political crisis about: people who have retired from politics and those that are about to retire, they have failed.
"They are saying, if we don’t grab power hunger will set-in. And I said, you are all graduates with degrees. If you don’t have a chamber to practice your law, tell us to open one for you so you can win cases for Rivers State.
He also turned to the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudum Nwuche, urging him to stop playing politics of calumny.
“Chibudum Nwuche is a lawyer. Why is he not practicing law and tell us what case he has won? Chibudum Nwuche is from a rich background; go and build on your father’s wealth”, he said.
Amaechi urged African writers to focus on government and policies, just like Professor Wole Soyinka and Late Chinua Achebe did in most of their books. According to the former World Bank Vice President for Africa, present at the event, there is strong connection between literature an economy.
The former Minister of education, spoke on the topic “Literature and the Economy” and supported the idea that economic theories could get across to the global stand only through literature.

She also lamented that Nigerians were unable to take advantage of the opportunities in other industries other than oil and urged people to seize the openings available in other sectors of the economy.
