Fear has gripped residents of Otulu, a satellite community of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State as suspected thugs have unleashed mayhem, killing and maiming harmless persons.Land Tussle:
The thugs suspected to be from a neighbouring community in Aniocha North LGA are also said to be raping young women in the town. The recent uprising, Sunday Sun gathered, is not unconnected with a protracted tussle over a vast expanse of land bounding the two communities.
Several persons were said to have been killed or injured in the past as the attackers allegedly refused to obey court injunction restraining both parties from trespassing on the disputed land pending the determination of a suit. Narrating his ordeal in the hands of the hooligans to Sunday Sun yesterday, a native of the area, George Okafor said he was beaten to a pulp while his agent was allegedly shot in the arm by over 30 hoodlums who attacked them at Otulu.
“I am a victim of the recent attack. We had gone to paste this enrolment order but immediately after pasting it, we saw more than 30 of them with cutlass, guns and iron rods and they descended on us. “They were beating me with cutlass and they shot one of my boys in the hand. There was bullet in his hand and I have to take him to the police station in Ogwashi-Uku so that he could go to the hospital to extract it and treat the wound. “They did not stop there, the house where they met us after pasting the order, they razed it completely. They scattered the restaurant operated by a woman,” Okafor said.
Reacting to the incident, the Iyasei (Prime Minister) of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, Chief Collins Afuwa said the people of Ogwashi-Uku were running out of patience as they had endured the treatment over the years waiting on the relevant authorities to intervene. “Our lands in Otulu and Edo have been taken over by Issele-Azagba and co, the so-called Isseles.
They are threatening our lives, killing our people with guns and knives. We have reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department but nothing happened. “There is even an injunction restraining everybody from trespassing on the land but they are still there in the bush butchering our boys and harassing our people.
They are causing confusion. We are raising this alarm because Ogwashi-Uku is ready for war. We have been very patient all these years,” Afuwa warned.
