Many Feared Dead As Boko Haram Strikes Again, Attacks Mobile Police Base

Gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram yesterday attacked two wards in Nasarawa, the Misebiri Police Station, ‘B’ Division, and the Police Mobile Force base along Gujba road in Damaturu, Yobe State capital.
According to report, the sect gained access to the police station through the bush surrounding the city.Speaking to journalist on phone, a resident, Musa Ali, said that the suspected members of Boko Haram, numbering over 50, stormed Nasarawa ward and shot sporadically.
A source, who confided in a journalist said that the gun battle between the combined team of the police and troops of the Nigerian Army started at about 6.30pm and was still on as at 9.35pm.
Security operatives were taken by surprise as they were not expecting the attack. They were therefore fighting with all their might, to defend the various formations within the city.
It was gathered that the sound of gunfire, bomb blasts and the battle cry in the gun battle between the Special Forces and the insurgents was still being heard at the Police Mobile Police Base as at the time of going to the press.
The spokesman of the 3 Division Battalion,  in Yobe, Captain Eli Lazarus, confirmed the attack but kept mum on whether there were casualties. He assured the community that troops had been sent to the affected areas.
However, unconfirmed source said the attack led to the death of some people on both sides.
A military source said majority of those killed were Boko Haram members.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Joint Task Force in Yobe, Lt. Lazarus Eli, said that he did not have details of the attack as he was still waiting to get feedback from those who went for the operation.
He however, said that the incident occurred by NNPC Mega Station by Red Bricks and not inside Damaturu town.
“I don’t have details, our troops are not back yet, I am waiting to get details before I can speak on this issue to anybody.
“Unless I have information from the troops who went there, I cannot comment on it,” he said.
