Nigerian U-17 women’s team, Flamingos, became the first African side to qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, which would take place in Costa Rica next year.
The Flamingos followed the
withdrawal of South Sudan from the qualifiers.
Nigeria were drawn against South
Sudan in the continental qualifiers but the East-Central African country opted
out of the race for undisclosed reasons.
The Sudanese had been scheduled to
host the first leg of the qualifying fixture this weekend, November 1 and 3.
“It’s good that our team has
qualified early.
The Nigeria Football Federation will
ensure the team starts preparation early enough and very ready to make Nigeria
proud,” the NFF General
Secretary, Musa Amadu said in a statement on Wednesday.
