The
baby was delivered by Mrs Mbanengen Emmanuel at about 5:30 p.m at Yima
Hospital, Makurdi, Benue. Soon after birth the baby died.
The
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. John Dzike says the baby also had
its intestines exposed at the lower part of the abdomen.
Dzike
adds that it is already the second time this year a baby with such
abnormalities has been delivered at the hospital. According to him, the
complication was caused by malformation during pregnancy.
He
mentions that some women use unprescribed during their pregnancy. He recommends
pregnant women to aboid self-medication and always to attend antenatal clinics,
especially in the first 12 weeks.
that
is why it is important to attend antenatal clinics, especially in the first 12
weeks.
Efforts
to speak with the baby’s mother have failed as she declined comment.
