Woman Imprisoned For Buying Stolen Building Blocks


A 31-year old business woman, Mary Ajayi was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment by a Grade 1 Area Court in Kuje, FCT, for buying stolen blocks, Monday.
According to the presiding judge, Mr Nuhu Ibrahim, the convict was guilty as charged and sentenced her to 3 months’ imprisonment with an option to pay N10,000 fine.
“Ajayi pleaded guilty to buying 161 stolen blocks from Mr Suleiman Lawal and she is hereby convicted of committing the offence.”
The woman, who had no counsel, had pleaded guilty to the charge against her and begged the court for leniency.
She was arraigned on one-count charge of receiving stolen property, contrary to Section 316 of the Penal Code.
The police prosecutor, Cpl. Samuel Ocheche, had told the court that Mr Emmanuel Dung of Nuwalege village, Kuje, reported the matter at the Kuje Police Station on 17 October.Ocheche said that Ajayi, a resident of Gosa, Airport road, Abuja, bought the blocks from Lawal at N30 each as against the normal price of N180 per block.
