A married teacher has been accused of sexually abusing students in his class.
According to reports, the 32-year-old man from India was sexually abusing Class V students and allegedly forced his unwanted attentions on over 20 students in the last six months.
A police source revealed that:
"When the girl entered the staffroom, the teacher pulled her towards himself and threw his arms about her. He made as if to bolt the door but the girl started to cry. He then shut the door but did not do the latch. He touched the girl inappropriately after which she began to scream. She pushed him away and ran out."
The girl was detained after school but her parents were not informed.
However, other students, who had come to know of her plight, reached home and informed their own parents. One of the parents, the source said, informed the victim's mother who rushed to school and took custody of her child. The mother asked to meet the principal but she was not available but soon other parents, too, reached the school. Police were not informed on Monday. The next day parents again assembled at the school and had an argument with the principal. Finally, when another parent also complained, the school informed police. The parents also asked the principal to take the teacher's resignation with immediate effect.
"I was scared so I went to my class teacher and narrated my ordeal. She asked me to write my complaint on a paper. I was then sent to the principal's room. They told me not to worry," the girl said in her statement.
Initial investigation has brought to fore gross negligence by the principal, police said.
