5 Dead, 32 Injured in Katsina Trailer Crash


Five people reported dead, while 32 others sustained injuries in a crash involving a Lagos-bound articulated vehicle in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State on November 25, 2013, Monday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the accident occurred at about 10.30 a.m. at Wanzamai village on Funtua-Kano Road when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
The scene of tragedy was near the new office of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the area.

The tragic accident involved a trailer marked XA 471 KAT, carrying 30 cows and 50 passengers.

One of the passengers in the vehicle, Malam Garba Iliya, said the truck was going to Lagos.

“The driver lost control and veered off the road throwing all of us into the bush,” Iliya said.

The dead and the injured had been taken to Malumfashi General Hospital.
It is the second major road accident in Katsina for the last few days, as six people died in an auto crash at Farin-Bala village in Jibia Local Government Area of the state, on Saturday, November 24.
