Suspended National
Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; a former
Acting National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje;
a former
National Deputy Chairman of the party, Dr. Sam Jaja and PDP former National
Vice-Chairman, North West, Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure, have vowed not to appear
before the party’s Disciplinary Committee headed by Dr. Umaru Dikko.
According
to their words, even though they are yet to be invited by the Umaru
Dikko-led Disciplinary Committee, they will not honour such an
invitation, because the committee is not known to the leadership of the
party.
They
also added that they would not confer legitimacy on the committee with their
appearance.
As
it was mentioned in the statement, the suspended members' first reaction was to
ignore the reports, as the PDP Constitution does not recognize the
existence of the "so-called Dikko Committee".
"Besides,
the fact that the committee – if at all it exists – did not have the courtesy
to directly invite the accused to appear before it strips it of any atom of
seriousness," - the statement reads.
Thus,
noting this fact, the above mentioned leaders do not plan to appear before the
Committee on November 27, or at any other date for that matter.
"The committee is an
illegality and alien to PDP and its members. It is not our intention to confer
legitimacy on such an illegal contraption by self-serving politicians intent on
destroying a house the building of which they were not a part."
The
National Publicicty Secretary of New PDP, Chief Chukwuemeka Eze, who delivered
the statement, added that the committee would only be functional when the
National Executive Committee of the party gives it approval, adding that in the
absence of this, whatever function the committee is deemed to be performing
remains null and void.
