Nigerian Premier League champions Kano Pillars and former African champions Enyimba International have been handed Congolese and Togolese opponents respectively in the preliminary round of the 2014 CAF Champions League.
In the fixtures released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on
Tuesday in Cairo after Monday’s draws, Pillars will take on AS vita of DR
Congo.
The draw for the 18th edition of the CAF Champions League was held in
Marrakech, Morocco on Monday, Dec. 16. Enyimba International FC of Aba, who
were Nigerian premier league runners-up last season and were twice African champions,
would face Anges De Notse of Togo.
Pillars will play their first leg game away and host their opponents in the
second leg, while Enyimba will host the first leg of their pairing.
The competition, which is now in its 50th edition as a championship but 18th
as a league, will involve 52 clubs in the preliminary round. Matches in the
round will hold in February, with the first leg between Feb. 7 and Feb. 9 and
the second leg between Feb. 14 and Feb. 16, 2014.
The 26 winners in the preliminary round will be joined at the round of 32 by
six other clubs, who drew bye, for the competition’s first round.
These are title-holders Al Ahly of Egypt, Coton Sport of Cameroon, TP
Mazembe of DR Congo, El-Hilal of Sudan, CS Sfaxien of Tunisia and Esperance
Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia.
