23-Year-Old In Prison For Stabbing Man To Death

A 23-year-old man, Adekunle Aduragbemi, has been remanded in Ikoyi prison for allegedly stabbing to death one Chidi Kuta, 30.

According to the police, Aduragbemi was arrested with the knife with which he stabbed the deceased in the neck. Both men were said to be resident on Adeyemi Street in Ojodu area of Lagos where the incident happened on November 25, 2013.

It was further learnt that the defendant made confessional statement to the police after he was interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.

He was said to have Kuta him during a fight in the neighbourhood after a minor disagreement.

The defendant was arraigned on one count of murder.

The charge read, “That you, Adekunle Aduragbemi, on November 25, 2013, at 2.50pm at Abiodun Adeyemi Street, Ojodu, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Chidi Kuta, aged 30 years, by stabbing him on the neck with a knife and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”

The defendant’s plea was not taken.

The magistrate, Mr. O.A Komolafe, remanded the suspect in the prison to enable the police obtain legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution.
