Gunmen Abduct 84-Year-Old ex-Biafran Soldier, Wife in Delta

84-year-old Biafran warlord, Major Azum Asoya (rtd.) was kidnapped with his wife by unknown gunmen in his hometown, Okpanam, while attending a burial ceremony on November 29, 2013, Friday, at about 10.30 p.m.
A family source confirmed the abduction to Vanguard on December 1, 2013, Sunday: “We have established contact with the kidnappers.
They are demanding N30 million but we are begging them to release our father unhurt. That is the situation for now.”
Sympathizers were seen the family compound, discussing the incident and pleading for immediate release of the veteran.
At the same time, Mr. Lucky Uyabame, the state police command’s spokesman, said four persons had been arrested for kidnapping two persons at Ugborodo community in the state, following the combined effort of the Military, DSS (Department of State Services) and the Navy.
“They (names withheld) were arrested while others are at large in connection with abductions, following report from concerned elders and stakeholders of Ugborodo community.
“Suspects allegedly kidnapped two indigenes of the community, tied them and subjectd them to inhuman treatment,” the spokesman narrated.
