Habibat, 35, a resident
of Oja-Gboro area, Ilorin, in her petition, urged the court to dissolve the
marriage, saying she could no longer cope with Suleiman’s habit.
She said that her
husband was fond of drinking too much alcohol daily without control.
"My
husband always beat me after drinking alcohol and virtually spends his income
on alcohol not minding the family," she said.
The mother of two said
the marriage was contracted in 2004 and had produced two children, Yusuf
and Faridat.
She added that she was
the only one responsible for the upkeep of the children.
"I
want an end to this marriage because I cannot continue with a drunkard that
always brings shame and disgrace to the family,’’ she said.
Responding, Suleiman,
who did not object his wife’s request, added that he too was tired of his
wife’s constant complaints.
He also urged the court
to grant the prayer of his wife without any claim.
Consequently, the Judge, Mr Yusuf
Abdulkareem, dissolved the marriage and issued a certificate of divorce to
Habibat.
