A 45-year-old man identified as Emmanuel Ubang was arraigned by the police at a Grade 1 Area court sitting at Kuje in FCT for stealing two chickens and two creates of eggs.
The accused confessed that
he stole the chickens and eggs to raise money to travel home for Christmas. He
pleaded for leniency and apologized to the complainant promising not to repeat
such acts.
The complainant, one
Mohammed Abbah of Dansarki Farms, Kuje, had lodged a complaint against the
accused at the Kuje Police Station on December 2.
The accused was said to
have gone to Dansarki's Farm under the pretence of buying live chickens and
entered the poultry section without the manager’s consent where he stole two
chickens and two crates of eggs. He then escaped through the back gate on a
motorcycle to Kuje forest with the stolen items.
The police prosecutor,
Corporal Ochehe Samuel, said that during investigation, the stolen chickens and
eggs were recovered from the convict when he was about to sell them, adding
that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the penal code.
The presiding judge, Mr.
Nuhu Ibrahim, sentenced Ubang to 6 months imprisonment after he pleaded guilty.
He gave him an option to pay N6,000 fine.
Ibrahim warned the convict
to stay away from crime and face life as an adult, saying that he gave him an
option to pay a fine because he was a first time offender.
