Abuja - The National Defence College (NDC), Abuja has been given two years
notice within which to complete and move to their permanent site along
the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Expressway (Airport Road), which is outside the
Federal Capital City (FCC).
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala
Mohammed gave the quit notice just as he has intensified efforts at the
demolition of illegal car wash and restaurants as well as other illegal
structures in the federal capital Territory which he said has altered
the master plan.
Giving the notice yesterday, when the Commandant of the College, Rear
Admiral Patrick Agholor paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Area
11, Garki, Abuja, Mohammed said; “continuous stay in the heart of the
FCC was an aberration considering the nature of their activities”.
The minister therefore urged the College “to accelerate the
development of its permanent site to conform to the expectations of the
Abuja Master Plan”.
Commending the Commandant for the visit, the minister noted that the
siting of the premier military institution in the FCT indeed added value
to Abuja, especially with security challenges in some parts of the
country.
Mohammed promised to assist the institution to appeal to the Minister
of Defence in order to make necessary budgetary provision to complete
the permanent site, adding that in line with the monetisation policy of
the government, the houses earlier given to them (NDC) to be used as
participant dormitory would be sold to deserving Nigerians.
