What is Best Buy? Best Buy is a multinational consumer’s electronics corporation that was started in the United States of America in 1966 under the name Sound Of Music. It was later re-branded to its current name in 1983.
One of Best Buy’s most notable features is the introduction of a 24-hour tech support service into the market known as geek squad. Its personnel can troubleshoot and repair equipment sold by it or other equipment of similar types. The scholarship is for students of the US and Puerto Rico from ninth to twelfth class. It primarily focuses on the smooth transition of students from High school to college by reducing the financial burden of the first fall semester.

 Starting from 1999, the Best Buy scholarship program under the name of Best Buy@15 awarded up to 12000$ to 1000 students each year. So far it has distributed around 20.7 Million Dollars among students.
Currently , the Best Buy scholarship programs supports 1100 High school students with a scholarship of 1000$  which shall be paid to the college of your choice. These cover part of your college expenses for the fall semester of the first year.

Applying for the Best Buy Scholarships :

Best Buy has hired an agency called to look after the program instead of them. But one can apply for the scholarship through the Best Buy website.
The application period is from December of one year to February of the next. It is generally advised to the applicants do not wait till the last few days of the application period to apply because the website slows down under the pressure of the increased traffic. It is also made clear that late applications are strictly not accepted.

Eligibility:

The eligibility criteria is updates every year but it stays the same for the most part. Following is the eligibility criteria from the year 2012.
  • The student must be in a High school and Applying in a College within the United States or Puerto Rico.
  • The Student must be studying in High school (9th to 12th) while applying for the scholarship.
  • GPA within the range of 2.5 to 4 is acceptable for the scholarship.
  • The student must have experience of volunteering in community or working.
  • The student must be planning to enroll in a full-time degree in an accredited higher education institution after graduating from High school. The chosen program should be 2 to 4 years long in a vocational or technical school, or even a web-based school.
  • The scholarship is only awarded once, you may not apply again for it once received.
  • Financial need and personal characteristics will not be considered for the scholarship.
  • Your academic record needs to be acceptable, but not necessarily exceptional.
  • The scholarship program is looking for people already in the workforce or those who have made a substantial contribution to the betterment of their community.
  • Extra-curricular activities and school leadership are also evaluated.

  • The scholarship is never handed over to the student, and the student can only name the institution, he wants the scholarship more to be sent to.
  • The scholarship is non transferrable once paid to a college.
