Your UF scholarship search may be over as we present you with a couple of scholarships for UF students in this post
UF awards scholarships based on academic achievement. However, you may get scholarships by also demonstrating financial need.
Furthermore, you don’t have to repay UF scholarships, the same way UF don’t expect you to perform services to receive them. These scholarships are simply Gift Aid. These scholarships are abundant because the university, the state, and individual colleges and departments award them, and even private companies and individuals award them.
In this post, we provide you with information on scholarships at UF on all categories. We hope to save you some of the time you take to search for UF scholarships. However, you’ll have to apply for these scholarships through the University of Florida’s office for Student Financial Affairs (SFA), your department, or other relevant offices. You’ll find links below the scholarships leading you to apply at UF scholarships site.
Student Financial Affairs(SFA) Scholarship
One of the ways to access scholarships at the University of Florida is through the office for Financial Affairs (SFA). The SFA administers several kinds of scholarships for UF students including non-endowed and endowed scholarships.
While you may have to apply manually for the SFA scholarships, you are automatically qualified for scholarships if you:
- Apply for financial aid so that UF receives Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) results by the “on-time” deadline of December 15
- Have financial need as indicated by the FAFSA
- Enroll as a full-time student of the university
- Have a 3.0 GPA, and
- Meet the donor-specified criteria.
UF’s SFA awards the following scholarships using the criteria above. Thus, the information on the scholarships will be brief. However, we’ll extensively discuss donor scholarships, so you will be clear on what they expect of you.
Machen Florida Opportunity Scholarships
This program is an initiative of the University of Florida which was supported by the Florida legislature in early June 2006. The Machen Florida Opportunity Scholarships (MFOS) ensures that qualified students won’t have to work or borrow to attend UF. Instead, their need will be fully met with grants and scholarships. This scholarship provides $12 million dollars in scholarships and grants yearly to UF students.
However, these awards are available to Florida resident first-time-in-college freshmen students and undergraduate renewal students. These students should be from economically disadvantaged backgrounds with parents who have not earned a bachelor’s degree.
Aside from being a Florida resident studying an undergraduate program as a freshman in the university, you’ll have to apply for FAFSA to be eligible. UF will have to receive your FAFSA application by December 15. Also, you must be enrolled in the university for at least twelve (12) credit hours/semester and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
You also should not have defaulted on or owe a refund to any previous aid program. Additionally, your family’s total income should be less than $40,000 while total family assets (other than the home) are less than $25,000.
How to Apply
UF expects you to apply for this scholarship even before gaining admission into the university. This is because SFA awards financial aid on a first come first served basis. Therefore, for SFA to consider your scholarship application, you must be an admitted student and have met the “On-Time” deadline.
To apply, complete the FAFSA using the link below:
Scholarship Deadline:
You can file a 2020-21 FAFSA as early as October 1, 2019.
Meanwhile, UF’s 2020-21 “On-Time” deadline to receive the results of your FAFSA from the federal processor is December 15, 2019.
Thus, apply well before December 15 to give the federal processor time to analyze and send the results of your FAFSA to the SFA.
Machen Florida Opportunity Scholarship Renewal
To renew your Machen Florida Opportunity Scholarship, you’re expected to have earned 24 academic credits in the previous year.
You should also maintain a 2.0 GPA and ensure that SFA receives your FAFSA by December 15th.
Also, your family income must not exceed $44,000 for 2nd Year, $48,000 for 3rd Year, and $52,000 for 4thYear. You will also have to participate in Peer Mentor Activities and satisfactorily Complete the SLS 1102 for 1st-year students only.
However, for 2nd-year students, you’ll have to attend two (2) Career Workshops, while 3rd-year students will complete one Life Planning Workshop.
